For this family, the ‘school run’ has become the ‘school armoured assault’.
Dad Nick Mead turns heads everyday as he drops his sons off at school in a 17 tonne tank.
No matter what the weather, Nick can pick from one of 130 military
vehicles to make sure Danny, 16, and Ashley, 13, never miss a minute of
school (they must really love him for that).
They make a shocking sight, but several of Nick’s military vehicles have tax disks and are completely road legal.
Nick, 53, said: ‘My children love it, the tanks are a bit of a
tourist attraction, but I can imagine they’re probably even a bit bored
of it now, it’s just the norm for them.
‘Their friends can’t get enough of it though; I just think all the attention is funny.’
Nick’s £2 million collection comes from his company Tanks A Lot Ltd, a
tank diving events company based near his home in Helmdom,
Northamptonshire.
He says his tank of choice while driving his boys to school is the
massive FV432 armoured personnel carrier, one of the biggest vehicles he
owns (and it’s completely road legal).
‘The police often grin or look the other way and most of them don’t
know what to do, it’s not every day you see a tank rolling into town,’
he said.
