Singer Jennifer Lopez and real-life princess Kate Middleton have been voted the top trendsetters of 2014.
Following
closely behind them was Beyoncé, who placed third on the list, but
surprisingly selfie queen Kim Kardashian was featured last on the top
ten list, which was based on a survey conducted on 1,000 American women
by online clothing subscription service LeTote.com.
Five
popstars were included on the list of most popular trendsetters with
Gwen Stefani, Rihanna and Katy Perry placing in sixth, seventh and
eighth place respectively.
Top of the
list: Influential actress and singer Jennifer Lopez, left, has had a
return to
prominence as an influence on American women, with the Duchess
of Cambridge a close second
Actress
Angelina Jolie was voted fourth, just ahead of First Lady Michelle
Obama in fifth, while British designer Victoria Beckham placed joint
eighth, alongside 'Roar' singer Katy Perry.
Jessica Alba and Sarah Jessica Parker also shared joint honors in ninth, with Keeping Up With the Kardashians star Kim, who sparked this year’s popular ‘belfie’ craze, appropriately bringing up the rear in 10th.
The survey also revealed details about how American women view popular trends.
87per
cent of those surveyed said they followed fashion trends, while one in
five women admitted to spending up to $500 a month on fashion and
accessories.
The
poll also suggested that, when it comes to being influenced by
celebrities, people voted with their feet - with shoes and boots
emerging as the items they are most likely to imitate.

and inspired with her powerful and muscular sensibility
But
you won't hear anyone say that out loud. If asked by friends where they
bought a particular item, the overwhelming majority of women (75per
cent) are happy to share the details, but the remainder demur - saying
it was a gift, claiming that they can't remember or flat out refusing to
divulge the source.
A
spokeswoman for Le Tote said: 'Because of the pressure from celebrity
mags, women feel a ton of pressure to constantly be wearing the newest
trends.
'Unfortunately, most women don't have the luxury of a personal stylist and an unlimited budget.
'Combine that with all of their outfits getting broadcast on social media, and looking fashionable has never been so pricey.
Gal pals: Rihanna topped Kim
Kardashian in terms of style influence, despite the reality star's
impressive social media presence
'Most women
today scratch the itch of variety by buying low-cost, low-quality pieces
with a short shelf life because they want to have the most up to date
wardrobe.
'What
we have seen is that most of these women are unsatisfied with this
costly cycle. More and more we are seeing women searching for high
quality brands that really speak to their personal style with-out
compromising excellent construction and fabrication.'
She
said that using a service like Le Tote gives women an ephemeral
wardrobe filled with high quality, on-trend pieces that they don't have
to commit to forever.
The $49 monthly price of Le Tote provides thousands of dollars in value to members at a fraction of the cost.
