Chelsea owner Abramovich holds meeting to decide Mourinho’s fate

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is set to hold a meeting with his management team to discuss the future of club manager Jose Mourinho.
The Russian billionaire will meet Bruce Buck, Marina Granovskaia, Eugene Tenenbaum and Michael Emenalo on Wednesday to re-evaluate the manager’s performance, according to Daily Mail.

Mourinho is facing a tumultuous season at Chelsea, with the Premier League defending champions lying 16th with 15 points from 16 matches played so far.

Pressure for the Portuguese mounted over the weekend after losing 2-1 to Leicester, marking their 9th defeat of the season.
Abramovich will however have to pay Mourinho £40 million if he chose to terminate his four-year contract at the end of this season to cover his £250,000-a-week salary.
Though settling the compensation may not be a problem for the Chelsea owner, it is reported to be one of the reasons for his hesitation to sack the embattled manager.
When Abramovich sacked Mourinho in 2007, he was forced to fork out £16 million to settle his wages and those of his staff, with the Russian owner sending the coach a Ferrari to thank him for his work.
The meeting comes a day after Mourinho expressed frustration over the dismal performance by his side during Monday night premier league match against Leicester City at Kings Stadium.

In his post-match reaction, Mourinho said he felt betrayed by the players who did not show commitment during the match posting a lacklustre performance.
“I feel my work was betrayed. I worked four days on this match, I prepared everything related to the opponent, I identified four movements where they score almost every one of their goals,” Mourinho is quoted on Telegraph as saying.
“My players got all that information in training in the last three days and in four types of situations that I identified, they conceded the first and the second goals.”
He said that he believes he did an amazing job last season and bought great players though stating that the dismal show may be because the players cannot live up to the level of Chelsea.
Chelsea fell 2-1 to Leicester with the home side getting their goals through Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez in the 34th and 48th minute respectively. The Blues scored their consolation goal through Loic Remy in the 77th minute.
Despite poor performance at the domestic level, Mourinho has posted impressive results in the European stage qualifying to the last 16 of UEFA Champions League. The Blues have been paired with French club Paris St-Germain in the home and away fixtures that will be played in January and February next year.
