The officer who used certificates bearing the name, Nelson Omwenga Nyakundi, had risen through the ranks to become a Superintendent of Police and was working at the AP Training School in Embakasi, Nairobi, when his actions finally caught up with him.
His documents show that he sat his KCPE exams when he was 10 years old, which is practically impossible unless he skipped several classes.
The commission launched investigations into Nyakundi after members the media and the public raised questions pertaining to his career.
NPSC Chairman Johnston Kavuludi says that they discovered that the said officer used a different name when a visited his rural home.
“To our surprise, not even his father and relatives knew a person by that name. Even the chief did not have any information about a person serving as a police officer by that name,” Kavuludi said.
He also says that the real Nelson Omwenga Nyakundi was shocked when he found out “that there is another person using a name that resembles his.”
The commission has formed a team to conduct a hearing and recommend appropriate actions to be taken against the officer.
