Kenyan Assembled Aircraft Just Won’t Take Off

Saturday June 20, 2015 was a big day for Gabriel Nderitu who was all set to try and fly his home-made aircraft for a sixth attempt, but became disappointed.
The locally assembled plane that Nderitu from Nyeri has been developing for about five years now failed to take off for the sixth time, Daily Nation reported.

The ground for take-off was some temporary platforms made using wood boards to assist the aircraft ascend after taking off from the runway.
Unexpectedly, the aircraft nosedived after hitting the platform and crash-landed a few metres away. However, there was no one on board as it was being operated by remote control.
He is now planning to request the Ministry of Roads and Infrastructure to allow him to do his next test on one of the tarmacked airstrips that are not currently in use such as Nyaribo airstrip in the outskirts of Nyeri Town.
The 48-year-old engineer has stated in the past that he has no training in aeronautical engineering but out of interest in the field, he uses the Internet to research and experiment on aircraft construction.
